Vietnam has a rather diversified topography: plains, midlands, mountains and forests. The largest and potentially most fertile plains are the Mekong River Delta in the South, and the Red River Delta in the North.
The midlands are a hilly region linking the mountain areas to the plains. The largest hilly region lies on the rim of the Red River Delta, the fringe of the plains of Thanh Hoa and Nghe Tinh provinces, and narrow down in the coastal area of central Vietnam along the Truong Son Range.
These areas are favorable to the cultivation of food and subsidiary food crops, industrial crops, fruit trees, as well as to cattle farming and construction.
Travelers will be delighted to see the hills covered with tea, coffee, pepper and pine-apples lying as far as the eye can see, the verdant mulberry fields, the cattle farms... This area is actually rich land region.
Vietnam is covered with many mountains and forests. Mountains and forests make up three-forth of Vietnam land. It can be divided into four main zones: The North-Eastern mountain or Viet Bac - The North Western Region, The North Truong Son Region and the Central Highland.
